Former Indian captain Virat Kohli appeared in his 100th Test match as India took on Sri Lanka in the first match of the two-Test series which is being played at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali. Virat became the 12th Indian player to achieve this milestone and overall the 71st cricketer to feature in 100 Test matches.
This was also the first Test match for Rohit Sharma as India captain and he won the toss, deciding to bat first on a seemingly spin-friendly wicket. India went in with three spinners in Jayant Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja. Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah were the two speedsters.
India got a good start as Rohit Sharma (29) and Mayank Agarwal (33) added 52 runs for the first wicket. But then both got out in quick succession. Hanuma Vihari batting at no.3 and Virat Kohli in his 100th Test, then added 90 runs for the third wicket. It was seeming that Virat Kohli will continue on for a hundred.
However, at 45, a beauty of a ball from Lasith Embuldeniya rattled his off-stump, sending a shocked-looking Virat Kohli back to the pavilion.
Meanwhile, India finished the day on a massive 356/7 with Rishabh Pant top-scoring with 96 and Ravindra Jadeja remaining unbeaten on 45 with Ravi Ashwin on 10* at the stumps.
Virat Kohli Enjoys In The Nets, Sings AP Dhillon’s Song ‘’Kehndi Hundi Si’
Though many thought Virat Kohli would be under pressure on the eve of his 100th Test match, the Delhi-born batter had arrived in Mohali much earlier and was preparing for the match as he normally does.
Virat Kohli said on Friday that he wants the”next generation” to be inspired by the fact that he was able to achieve the feat despite playing in all three formats during a grueling international schedule.
During one of his net sessions, Kohli was seen singing a hit Punjabi number ‘Kehndi Hundi Si’ by singer AP Dhillon. He was seen vibing to the song while walking in for a batting session.
